Suppose that you have not seen your friend for a long time. Suddenly, you see him by chance at a shopping mall. People usually say something like

(1) Hi John, It's nice to see you again. How are you? ...

Is it wrong to replace "nice" with "fantastic" as given below?

(2) Hi John, It's fantastic to see you again. .....

    No, it's not wrong because the sentence is correct. The sentiment or the feeling, however, is all wrong. The phrase "nice to see you again" is restrained and formal, not something I would say to a friend I haven't seen in a while. "It's fantastic to see you again!" communicates an overwhelming happiness at meeting up again with a dear friend.
