Hello there,
I know there is a famous Scotish song "Jock of hazeldean". But what does it mean in English? Especially the word "hazeldean"?
Thank you!

'Dean' - more commonly 'dene' or 'den' is a narrow valley. There are many examples of denes prefaced by different tree names 'Hazel' is the kind or tree that mainly grows in your example. See also 'Hesleden' in County Durham.
