    Hello everyone,

I wonder about the meaning of the following sentence. Am I correct?

John put his mind to getting a black belt in Judo.
John set himself the goal of getting a black belt in Judo.

    Thanks

To me this preparatory to actually working on the black belt. It sounds more like he is doing is due diligence and research on how best to attain the black belt.
