join us for a celebration

    It is too bad that Kathy can't join us for a celebration honoring her father.

    Does the underlined part in the above sound right? Is it better to reword it as "join with us in a celebration?" Thanks.

    Although both are correct, "Join us for a celebration" sounds more natural than "join with us".

    I would expect to see "join with us" in writing in a formal context. For example, on a written invitation.
