Can anyone tell me the origin of this term? Kangaroo Court

I think it comes from something related to Gold Rush Era frontier justice in the US.

Any input is appreciated.

All I recall is that Kangaroos jump up and down a lot...

AS soon as you stand up, the judge whacks his gavel, says guilty, and you sit back dwn.

EDIT: Curious, I found this LINK

Some speculate that Kangaroo court originated in the U.S. during the California gold rush. But perhaps Australian ‘49ers’ brought it with them to the gold fields. The expression likens the jumping of Kangaroos to a court that jumps to conclusions.
