Keep not getting married

In the west, there are many couples who live together, a lot of them having children too, but keep not getting married for quite a few years or even more than a decade. Why don't they?

Could you please check and correct this passage? I feel the style is clumzy because I have revised it at quite a few places but I still don't see fluency and clearness in it.

To keep doing something is to do it repeatedly, a number of times. This makes no sense when you’re talking about NOT doing something.

But you could express it as their remaining unmarried for a long time, or choosing not to get married even though they’re in a long-term relationship.
