keep the thread as a civil discourse

Some posters have started trading hostility in a thread. If the forum moderator has to post a warning message in the attempt to stop the thread from turning into a full blown flame war, would it be correct to say "please keep the thread as a civil discourse"? Thanks

Yes, but "correct" is not always "natural" or appropriate.

In this case, it comes off a bit stilted. I'd say: "Keep the discussion civil."

    Hi again~

Does "keep it clean" mean the same as "keep it civil"?

If a guy keeps posting racist and sexist remarks at others on a discussion board, is it okay for the moderator to say "Please keep it clean, otherwise you'll be removed from this forum"?

A moderator would probably only say Keep it clean if the thread was descending into pornography, RG.

By the way, I also wasn't keen on civil discourse ~ very stuffy:thumbsdown:
