Keeping the/a level of neurotransmitter high

Senior Member

Keeping the/a level of those neurotransmitters high will make you happier.

Which article I should go with? That level is unknown. Or it's better to say "levels of"?

A bit more context please. What are the two or three sentences that come before this one?
Don't have specific ones. Just that there are no "levels" mentioned there. Talking about those neurotransmitter but not about their level.

Without anything more, all I can suggest is that it should be "the levels". It's neurotransmitters, so there can't be a single level. Without some knowledge of what is being discussed and the context of the sentence, it's not possible to say if the definite article could be omitted.
