The dictionary gives two translations for kidnapper:
le ravisseur and le kidnappeur
Which of the two is more common?

    I think kidnappeur is, but in a news story a reporter would probably eventually use ravisseur to avoid using the same word repeatedly.

    Personally, I think that "ravisseur" sounds more formal and is more likely to be used by journalists.
