The normal dish is "steak and kidney pudding".
This is made from steak and kidney cooked together with onions and various flavourings with a pastry cover.

I expect that anyone who heard, or read "... steak and kidney pudding ..." but had never come across this delicious dish might well think that this referred to two distinct items - the first, steak - the second, kidney pudding.

Steak and kidney pie, or pudding, is essentially English.
I associate it mostly with northern England, but that's an impression.

I'll take the very risky step of suggesting that if it is made with normal pastry and cooked in an oven it is pie; if it is made with suet pastry and steamed/boiled it is pudding.
