knew that everyone who was rich

Ciao a tutti,

As of last year’s naturalization ceremony, she was an American, and everyone who wasn’t an American knew that everyone who was rich, but of all the indictments she’d brought against him, that one was the least likely.

Are you sure you copied the text correctly? qualcosa non va - I can't make sense of it. I have the feeling some words are missing.
Could be simply an extra "was" - everyone who wasn't an American knew that everyone who was, was rich...."

    Dear joanvillafane,
Thanks for your message. It doesn't make any sense to me either and I have had the same impression...there must be something missing here.
However, the sentence is in a final pdf ready for print so... I don't know :(

Could it be: ...everyone who wasn't an American knew that everyone, who was rich ?

...Maybe I'm just overthinking and only the full context could possibly confirm the above.
Failing that, I concur something seems to be missing.
