lâcher (carte graphique)

I have just read the following in the French Quora:

j'avais un hp en 2006 qui avait un défaut sur la carte graphique de série, Hp avait étendu la garantie car ils lâchait au bout de 18 mois (l'asic brûlait)

Does "lâcher" mean "fail" in this context? I could not find that meaning in Larousse or Word Reference. "let go" and "give way" (its most usual translations) do not make any sense.

I assume the "s" in "ils" was a typo, as the second sentence obviously refers to the HP notebook in question.

Yes, the cards would fail, conk out.
The phrasing is incorrect : ...car elles (=les cartes graphiques) lâchaient (=claquaient)....
