la fraîcheur du petit matin

    What do you think of my translation of this sentence:
    "La fraîcheur du petit matin n'empêche pas les premières gouttes de sueur..."
    It is a commentary of a bike race up a mountain at 5 am.
    My try:
    "The early morning fresh air does not stop the first pearls of sweat from beading..."
    Do pearls of sweat bead?

    Perhaps: Despite the cool early morning air, the first drops of sweat...

    I'm inclined to think of fraîcheur here as being more related to temperature than the freshness of the air per se.

    What about: The early morning chill does not stop the first drops of sweat from forming...

    I suggest "The early-morning coolness ....."

    yes of course! "Coolness" is more like it! As is "drops" of course!
