lag in economy

I am having some problems with specific lingo for economic reports.

If one region has got economic indicators which are much worse than in the rest of the country and its economic development is far behind that of other regions, can we talk about a lag in the economic development of this region or that it is lagging behind other regions with regard to economic development? I mean, can the word "lag" be used as an adopted term in economic terminology?

    Hi Setwale-Charm,

According to Google, yes it can.

This phraseology sounds so natural to my ear that I'm assuming that I've heard it many times before in news broadcasts, etc. "Lagging behind" seems very appropriate for what you describe.
