Is the use of "last out longer" correct?
"Having lost her grandparents to hunger during the siege of Leningrad, she would never throw away even the smallest pieces of bread. She would often say with these small pieces of bread they would have been able to last out longer."
The woman's grandparents indeed died of hunger during the siege of Leningrad.
