latching onto a James Beattie pass and chipping over Petr Cech.

Hi again, always the same article.
Extract: "Rory Delap had earlier given City the lead, latching onto a James Beattie pass and chipping over Petr Cech."
My attempt of translation: "Rory Delap aveva dato il vantaggio al City, utilizzando/mettendo in rete  un passaggio di James Beattie e saltando :confused: Petr Cech."
Thanks for your help
Peppe

  • Thank you VERY much, Manuel. Now it's clearer.
"Controllando" sounds good to me. Maybe the second part can be translated as"controllando un passaggio di James Beattie e battendo Petr Cech con un tocco sotto"
Con "tocco sotto" si intende che il portiere è stato scavalcato dal pallone con una sorta di pallonetto/lob. Pensi vada bene?

    Hi there
Football doesn't mean a thing to me but this might help with "chipping" and will check if you are on the right track. (I can't tell, of course, from the Italian.;))
    chip.htm
Latch on = to take possession of / to obtain / to get / to attach oneself to

    Ciao
    Leo:)
