Hola:

In a book "usted y yo primer paso" conteste ahora en español:
1.¿Le gustan más las casas grandes o pequeños?
I can not find gustan in dictionary. Computer can not translate. I know it has to do with like or pleases. Would like to know difference between gustan and gusta . I think maybe some examples would help.

Thank you,

I do not know much , but I do know that I don´t know and that is more than some can truthfuly say.

The verb is "gustar" = to like

The translation of that question is : Do you like the big houses or the small ones?

Me gustan los chocolates = I like chocolates

A el_novato le gusta hacer bromas = el_novato likes to make jokes

Me gusta la comida mexican = I like mexican food

A mis padres les gusta ir al cine = My parents like to go to the movies.

A mis padres les gustan las mascotas = My parents like the pets

"gustan" is used when the "indirect objetct" is in plural.

    I hope it helps

    Please correct me

    The verb is gustar (infinitive)
gustan is plural: because is asking if you like big houses or small houses.
    gusta is singular.
¿Te gusta el helado? Do you like icecream?
¿Te gustan los chocolates? Do you like chocolates?
In spanish is a reflexive verb, in this case the subjet is los chocolates/el helado.

It´s a little bit complecated so if I wasn´t clear enough, please ask me again.

    Hi Manbaby-

You have already gotten very sound advice from others. Here's another perspective to help you understand this seemingly peculiar usage. [Ours sounds just as unnatural to the spanish ear!].

Me gustan las chicas guapas. You will normally see this translated as,
I like the pretty girls. But hold on a minute. A very literal translation makes it sound almost like archaic English: They please me, the pretty girls.
Now, just remember that the order of things in English and the Romance languages is usually reversed. Hence: The pretty girls please me. That's damned close to I like the pretty girls.

It's pretty straightforward from there. If the sentence begins with Nos, then it's, We like the.... etc.

Keep studying and asking questions. Folks here in the forum are great helpers. We all love languages and sharing is at least half the fun.

    Saludos,

Is it really a reflexive verb or it just has a special conjugation like encantar,enojar...?

    Indirect Object
    Me gusta
    Te gusta
    Le gusta
    Nos gusta
    Os gusta
    Les gusta

    Reflexive
    Me lavo
    Te lavas
    Se lava
    Nos lavamos
    Os lavais
    Se lavan

Remember that gustar is not a reflexive verb. You can find other posts on this forum explaining gustar.
