lead to: do to or to doing?

Hello,everyone,

Are the following two structures both correct?
lead somebody to do sth.
lead somebody to doing sth

I learned that the to in lead to is a preposition, but I often read of such sentences:
1.What led you to believe him?
2.... led Mr. Smith to organize the group...
Can I use believing and organizing here?

Is there any difference between the following three sentences?
1..... led Mr. Smith to organize the group...
2..... led Mr. Smith to organizing the group...
3..... led Mr. Smith in organizing the group...

Best regards.

  • Is there any difference between the following three sentences?
1..... led Mr. Smith to organize the group...
Someone led Mr. Smith so that Mr. Smith will organize the group

2..... led Mr. Smith to organizing the group...
The second one is just wrong
3..... led Mr. Smith in organizing the group...
Someone showed Mr. Smith how to organize the group

    also:
    lead somebody to do sth.
to show someone how to do something

    lead somebody to doing sth
to convince someone to do something

please tell me if that helped

hi,there was something wrong with my PC

    I've found such a sentence:
The injustices in the city and in the South led Dr King to organize non-violent demonstrations aimed at ending segregation.
lead somebody to do sth. here does not mean to show someone how to do something, it seems?

Still, I want to know whether it can be replaced by led Dr King to organizing?
My problem focuses on when to use lead to do and when to use lead to doing.

    Thank you!!
