legally sane, legally insane

    Hi. So, I'd like to know the best way to translate: legally sane & legally insane. Here is the context:

    "You will be asekd at the conclusion of this case to decide whether or not Juan was legally sane or legally insane at the time he committed these acts."

    Legalmente cuerdo o legalmente demente???????????????????

    Yo pondría "si de acuerdo con la ley Juan estaba o no en posesión de sus facultades mentales"

    "...si era juridicamente apto o no para presentarse delante del juez..."
    Maybe????/
