let it bubble like rum in the kettle

Hi everyone,

I googled it yet I couldn't find anything. What does it mean? Is it something like "think it over"?

The heroine of the story is going back to her motel after interviewing someone in her investigation. She says, "Yeh, walk back, let it bubble like rum in the kettle."

Of course, the author is Adrian McKinty, Irish born and living in Australia.

Thanks in advance.
