So there's عندي and there's بلاقي.

For example if one wanted to say "I got a new job," it would be the latter verb. If one wanted to say "I got / have a cold (or virus or whatever of that nature) would the latter also be used or could both verbs work here?

TIA

  • No. بلاقي means 'I find', so literally you're saying I find a new job.

Different people may say different things for 'I have a cold', but عندي or معي are both used, I think. My sense is that معي is more common.
