    wowwww
you seem a little curious to me.

there are a lot of differences in lifestile from North to South of Italy.
All the things I'm going to say are due to my experience so it is only my opinion. Somone else can tell you something different.

The salary is higher in the North and there it's easier to find a job.
as to people: they are less friendly and more stressed. that is, life goes on faster in North Italy than in South Italy. there's less time for feeling.

as to schools usually it goes this way:
    - from 5-6 to 10-11 years old children attend to the "scuola elementare", 5 years long

    - from 10-11 to 13-14 children attend to the "scuola media", 3 years long

    - from 13-14 to 18-19 children (I should say boys & girls) attend to the "scuola superiore", 5 years long

    - then if they want they can attend to one of our "università" choosing among a lot of different branches

    is that enough?

Alfry, I agree with you for the most part.

When you say people are less friendly here, I guess you didn't explain much. Unfriendly doesn't seem to be the right word. So now I will explain a couple of things and then you'll be able to comment.

In the North, families are usually smaller and people like their own privacy. Unless you live in a town where everybody knows anybody, people mind their own business. In the South it's almost the opposite. And when people mind their own business and are always in a hurry, they might look unfriendly, but actually most people are ready to help you... at least where I live ;)

Anyway, we cannot lump things together without discrimination. There are different situations depending on the region, small villages or big cities, in the mountains, on the lake, on the plain...

About the schooling system, a few years ago school has become compulsory until you're 16, if I'm not mistaken. Before that compulsory school was over when you were 14.

I knew that I could be misunderstood and you are right... 'less friendly' is not the best choise... so I apologise if someone was offended by my words... that wasn't my purpose

your explanation is really great... nothing to say!

since I have lived in the South of Italy for 27-28 years and then I came to live to the North, I was struk by all that diference. Obviously I note the opposite behaviour when I come back to the South.
Now I have a lot of friends here ;) . it was only a matter of habits and of way to live in a different environment!
