What is the right verb to use when translating "assistere" in a legal sense?

"Lo studio legale ha assistito l'azienda XXX nell'acquisizione di..."

"The lawfirm supported/assisted/took care of XXX group in the acquisition of ..."

Thanks all!

    Maybe it depends on context:
    a) "was an advisor/were advisors to..." (as consultants etc)
    b) "represented" (if some sort of legal forum, or court of law, was involved)
What do you say, you legal experts out there?

    Thanks both!

Gavin, I think there was no court involved, as it's about a business transaction.

So, can I say "the lawfirm advised XXX" or is it better to say "was advisor to"?
