    Hello there,

I've just come across the expression "look somebody in the eye" - is it possible to use the plural:

I looked him in the eyes? or to say:
I looked in his eyes/ I looked into his eyes?

    Confusing!

Thank you very much for your kind help

I looked him in the eye and said, "I'm not going to put up with your bullshit anymore!"
I gazed into his eyes during a romantic dinner.

I don't have a problem with "I looked into his eyes" in some specific contexts, but it's usually less natural.
