zapatos que crujian bajo los frescos en penumbra.

How would you translate this sentence?

I would say....shoes that creaked under...and then I just get lost!

    Hello, rockchique

A fresco can be a painting, and penumbra refers to dim lighting. Is it possible the person is walking across a creaky hall, with paintings on the walls, and dim lighting?

More context might helps us help you better :)
