Hi,

I'd like to know what exactly a lounge jacket refers to. The definition provided by the dictionary doesn't go a long way towards specifying what kind of jacket it is. Thanks in advance,

I can see there is a trend to use “lounge” as a word to describe very casual gear, stuff you would lounge around your home in. One step up from your pyjamas! This is not the same as a traditional lounge jacket, which might even have been called a lounge suit. This name was used to mark a difference between types of menswear which still looks quite formal compared to a hoody, but not quite as formal as a top hat and tails!
