Is this acceptable/familiar/slang/offensive? Does it suggest physical violence or just a confrontation?

    "casser la gueule"
    Yes! It does suggest physical violence [Wouldn't you faire la fête à somone if he took your wife/your husband?!]
    "Faire sa fête à quelqu'un" is familiar
    "Casser la gueule" is slang

    If you didn't know, more direct wording can be used; donner un coup de pied/poing sur

    to kick, punch :)

    whip somebody's ass.. Although this is perhaps more for competition, but i've hard it may times as meaning as ass kickin' !!
