I know it is correct to say Make a mess of Something.

Is it also right to say make a mess out of something?

Hello. Off the top of my head I would say that both mean the same thing and are interchangeable.

He made a mess of the project. = He made a mess out of the project.

Wait for other opinions and confirmation!!
