Make them recline

Is the expression "Make them recline" still in use? Or does it sound old-fashioned.

For there were about five thousand men. And He said to His disciples, Make them recline in groups of about fifty each.

This the story of the loaves and the fishes, isn't it? The romans (and maybe the jews) were famous for eating lying down. They'd lie on their side propped up on one elbow. that's what I assumed was going on. A translator might decide to update the story to something closer to modern mealtimes, which would indeed be sitting in groups of fifty, but lying is closer to the original meaning.
