Hello foreros,

In a humble dwelling - an adobe hut with earth floor - is a 'mantel de hule' more likely to be 'an oilcloth table covering' or 'a rubber tablecloth'?

Interesting! Those dictionaries could well be useful for me, too - many thanks.

Despite 'hule' being another word for rubber, 'mantel de hule' used to refer to an oilcloth table-cloth. When I was a girl they were typical of every kitchen table, but they went out of fashion several decades ago.

También, algunos mexicanos pordrían estar hablando (erróneamente) de un vinyl tablecloth, al mencionar "hule".

Ah, ok. In that case it could also be that...
