Shouldn't it have been "doubtlessly"? Or would the meaning have changed?

No, "doubtless" is correct. It means "without (any) doubt". I don't think the word "doubtlessly" is used.

No, for some odd reason 'doubtless' is the adverb, and the -ly form is not used.

'Doubtlessly' is used, and could be used here, but is far less common than 'doubtless'. I don't think 'doubtlessly' is wrong; there is nothing to indicate it is a misuse in the wordreference.com dictionary.
