master puppeteer

I was hoping that someone could tell me how to say master puppeteer.
As in, "As if he were a master puppeteer, he is the only person with any real control."

I felt that both "titiritero principal" and "maestro titiritero" sounded a bit strange, but those are the only things I have come up with so far.

    An expression in Spanish is

    "es el que mueve todos los hilos"

    It's not a literal translation of what you're asking, but the meaning's the same and it's very common in Spain.
