Hello!!!
Once again I need your help.

Im filling out an application but I´m very confused... Let´s say that my name is "Sofia Malinali García Márquez" so:
  • FAMILY NAME: García
  • FIRST NAME: Sofia
  • MIDDLE NAME: ???
  • PREVIOUS NAME/SURNAME: ???
Could someone tell me if my middle name is Sofia? and can you explain what exactly is a previous name/surname??
Can I write García Márquez in the family name space??

Thanks in advance
Saludos

-Your middle name would be Malinali. But, you can also have two first names, therefore, you could put Sofia Malinali as your 1st name.

-Previous name/surname should be a maiden name or possibly, prior name (if you changed names your official name on document). And, I don't believe it is applicable in this case.

-And, you could write Garcia Marquez in the family name.

Thank you xwindwalkerx for your answer.

In Anglo cultures, people typically have two given names and one surname.

    Robert Steven Smith

The use of a middle name began as an attempt to distinguish between two people of the same name. If there were two Robert Smiths, it was confusing, so people might have referred to one using his mother's maiden name, for example. Eventually, we started giving middle names at birth, and it is now an established custom.

I recommend you follow Filis's advice here.
