The word "otherwise" makes me confused
Could I replace "might otherwise have lived " with "migh have lived if we did something"?

Oh wait, could you rewrite the sentences "If we don’t do something, then children who might otherwise have lived will certainly die young" in the easiest way for me please!

I find it difficult to tranlate the sentences into my mother language!
