Hi!

"We should care more about those we can save all over the world than we do. If we don’t do something, then children who might otherwise have lived will certainly die young".

Source: A Llittle History of Philosophy - Nigel Warburton
The word "otherwise" makes me confused
Could I replace "might otherwise have lived " with "migh have lived if we did something"?

Thank you!

"...might have lived if we did something". "...might have lived in different circumstances."
Oh wait, could you rewrite the sentences "If we don’t do something, then children who might otherwise have lived will certainly die young" in the easiest way for me please!

I find it difficult to tranlate the sentences into my mother language!

    Thanks again!
