Would you please help me to choose the correct choice and explain the difference between A and B in the sentence below?
Scott's tunes were a _______ of classical European and African beats.
A/ mixture B/ combination
The answer key is A but I think both A and B may be right.

Thanks in advance.

To me mixture implies a more thorough blending than combination, where the different things being brought together still retain some of their identity yet still interact.

Mixture of rice and beans = rice and beans tossed together
Combination of rice and beans = rice on one plate beans on another

An interesting distinction. Even if we agree on this, we still need to know a lot more about Scott's tunes to know which one best fits the gap. Does he mix elements in one tune or does he go from one style to another!
