What do we normally say when we mention the above as hobbies (sad I know)? I like playing on the phone / playing on the computer, for example?

Is it more usual to say "surfing the Internet/social media" or "playing games on the phone" than "playing on the phone"?

If you are playing computer games I would say, I like playing games on the computer as suggested by dojibear. If you are using search engines to get information or read articles or to get into certain websites (including ones like Facebook) I would say, I like surfing the Net/Internet. If you are just using social networking sites, you could be more specific but since I’m not into that sort of thing I don’t know the jargon. Someone else might help you with that. :)
