I am trying to translate the following sentence

"monte au filet" when describing a tennis player's aggressive reaction

"goes to the net"?

"goes to the net" doit convenir mais peut-être les tennismen anglais emploient-ils une expression pour dire ça

i would say "come up to the net".
That's what tennis players would say

Je suis d'accord pour "to come up to the net" et "to come to the net".

A noter que "monter au filet sur un coup slicé" se dit "chip and charge".

"To approach the net" est une autre possibilité à mentionner, bien que ce ne soit pas exactement synonyme (ce peut être "se rapprocher du filet" plutôt que prendre position dans une zone proche du filet).
