One of my students wrote:

First of all, getting a good education is surely much easier in our modern time. You get more support from your country and there are also more possibilities for the school choice.

The student wants to say that now there are more schools than in the past; you can choose the school you like best.

Maybe: ...more possibilities concerning choice of school.

How would you rewrite it?

Does the student want to use the phrase "school choice" because it has political overtones? Or I should say, you should be aware of the political overtones in the US.
He just wants to say there are more schools than there were in the past. More schools = more options. Each school focuses on different things: IT, languages, etc. So you can choose the school you really want to attend because of your own interests.
