The measurement of a cars fuel usage in the US is miles per gallon (mpg). This is a measure of fuel economy. I believe that Canada and UK also use a measurement of fuel economy (kilometers per liter; km/L).

Many other parts of the world use a measurement of fuel consumption (liters per 100 kilometers)

My question is which is the method (km/L or L/100km) used in Central and South America and how is it expressed in Spanish. In other words how would I translate the following sentence using the appropriate standards:

"My new car is very economical; it gets 35 miles per gallon." (15 km/L; 6.7 L/100km)

Thank you, scotu
