nail the man

I was walking on the street and I saw a group of people chatting and watching a blind man singing songs. Suddenly a woman cried "pickpockets!" and a man ran away. Then another man who later turned out to be a cop chased the thief but no one knew if the cop nailed the man. I wonder "Has the police nailed the man", is the bold natural?

No, it’s not. Did the policeman nail the guy? might sound a little better but I don’t think I would use it in this situation. I might some time after the event.

Did the policeman manage to catch/grab the guy?
