nape of the woods, neck of the wape

New Member
Hi guys,
I watched the Caddyshack the other night and I couldn't understand why it is funny when Chevy Chase says "What brings you to this nape of the woods, neck of the wape; How come you're here?"

Could somebody explain it to me? I don't understand neither "nape of the woods" nor "neck of the wape".

He is humorously mixing up two unrelated expressions.

    1) this neck of the woods - a colloquial expression meaning "this general area", meant to sound rural and folksy.

    2) nape of the neck - the back of the neck

He seems to have trouble saying "neck of the woods", so chooses a plain phrase instead.
