Neither tap nor touch

Senior Member

I am looking for a word. Here is a context: My friend and I are sitting in a lecture class. I sit behind my friend. He is attentively listening to the teacher. I want to get his attention so I use my forefinger and gently scratch his shoulder. What word should I use to describe my action. I am not looking for the word tap or touch or nudge. Thanks in advance.

    Why not use touch?
It is the most natural word to use in the context. Anything else will be somewhat less accurate.
Scratched suggests a physical injury when done to someone else, or at least a relief of itch by mutual consent.
