N'engueulez pas la cuisinière, le patron s'en charge

HI everyone,

I've come across this phrase in a book I'm reading. I've figured out that it's a play on another expression (N'engueulez pas le patron, la patronne s'en charge) but to be honest I don't really understand that one either...

Obviously, the translation that I'm understanding is 'don't yell at the (female) cook, the (male) boss is taking care of it... but I think I'm missing the joke or not getting something.

Ohhhh, wait, that makes sense actually! My translation of 's'en charge' was putting me off. I get the joke now, thanks!
