Does the expression "never underestimate the power of ---" (money, greed, women, etc.) relate to what was originally a proverb and, if so, which one?

I would guess the root is:

Never underestimate the anger/revenge of a woman scorned.

And you also frequently hear: Never underestimate the power of a woman.
