You hear "early next morning" spoken a lot more often, but is "next morning early" a literary choice in most cases?

[1] Next morning early I got on my bike and rode and rode.
[2] Early next morning I got on my bike and rode and rode.

Thanks.

Hello Hiro. The difference is just a slight shift of emphasis: in (1) the emphasis is on next morning; in (2) it's on early. But it's a pretty negligible difference.

I just wondered ... is it possible to say something like

[3] Yesterday morning late we watched the show.
[4] Previous night early we watched the show.
[5] Last year early we climbed the mountain.
[6] That year later we climbed the mountain.

    ?

Basically you can switch "early (earlier) /late (later) + time adverb" around, can't you, the way it looks?

None of these sound natural to me, and I don't think most native speakers would use them. Occasionally there might be a situation in which the stress needs to be on "later" or "early," and one would use these forms in conversation, but in writing I'd definitely avoid them and generally in conversation too.

I might say that Hiro, yes.
For your previous four sentences, I'd use these:
[3] Late yesterday morning we watched the show.
[4] Early last evening we watched the show.
[5] Early last year we climbed the mountain.
[6] Later that year we climbed the mountain.

The four examples you presented, yes, they are what I use too, but with reference to "next morning early" I wondered if the switched-around phrases would be ever used. Thanks for your confirmation!
