What is the etymology of nightmare?
Is it relate with night and mare or it is only a coincidence?

Well, it is from "night" + "mare", but probably not the same "mare" you're thinking of. It's from the Old English word mare, no longer used in the modern language, that refers to a demon thought to cause sleep paralysis (a very disturbing-feeling condition when you wake up before the temporary paralysis your brain imposes on you while you sleep wears off). The term later came to refer to sleep paralysis itself, and later any bad dream.
