No Man's Land

My French teachers are having a dispute that I would love to settle. The one who is native says the French just say "no man's land" - my other teacher says it's 'la terre morte' - my French French teacher says she has never heard of that.

I am talking about literal no man's land here, in the context of a war.

Thank you!

Well, "tampon" may be used to explain the concept of "no man's land", since a "zone tampon" is a separation zone in general, but surely there is no other way to say it than "no man's land" itself. It is exactly the same expression, taken from English.
