Nor I

Hi, my question about nor should be a little different from the others that had been asked; in conversion, if it's possible to drop the auxiliary verb that followed the word "Nor"? I just read the following, which is also my first encounter:
"I never believed a ship could sink in the blink of an eye."
"Nor I," McDermott agreed.
To the best my knowledge, it should be Nor did I. What do you think?

Yes, I think it really depends on what you're replying to. There's no rule for me... just the sound of it.

    I would never do that!
    Nor would I.
(I'm less inclined to say "Nor I" here.)

    I never believed his account.
    Nor I.
(Although "Nor did I" is also fine.)
