can anyone tell me what is considered to be the most important town in the north of france? Is is Lille? Or Normandy? Thanks!

I'd say Lille. Where is Normandy? the spelling looks more english. Or do you mean the region, North of Brittany (Bretagne), La Normandie?

The most important town in the very north of france is Lille. Normandie is a region and is in north west of France (remember the D Day, a morning of the year 1944)
