    What's the difference?

    Sample sentences:
Det verste var å tenke på familien min, så det måtte jeg prøve å ikke tenke på.
    Jeg tror ikke han kommer.
Are tenke and tro what denken and glauben are in German? i.e. the former indicating actual thoughts and the latter meaning something along the lines of guessing?

Yes, this is correct. Tenke indicates actual thoughts, and tro is more like believing, guessing. Tro is also used about religious beliefs.
